The Work Order Day

Here at Charter House our hours start at 8am to 4pm. We start our day with a small breakfast (bagels, OJ, toast, oatmeal) for a small fee and free coffee. Some mornings we also offer a hot breakfast. At 9:15am and 1:15pm we start our unit meetings where members can volunteer for tasks. Charter House has 3 units to choose from kitchen, clerical, or communications unit. Each offering different styles of tasks to partake in. Our day is structured similar to a normal workday so that members can be accustomed to a "work day". While its not mandatory to stay for the full 8 hours it does give those interested in getting back into employment a way to ease into a routine.

Kitchen- If you like preparing food and feeding others this could be the unit to participate in to help build knowledge on how a State Certified kitchen is run. We take cleanliness seriously and abide by regulations for a proper kitchen to be run. If cooking and prepping food isn't your style then there are various tasks such as janitorial, dishwashing, serving, and a snack shop (very popular) to manage. (Below: Snack Shop, Dishwashing, Food Prep)

Clerical- If you're more into an office setting we have a billing department to help input member attendance into spreadsheets to be printed off everyday. We also like to make sure our members are getting birthday cards where members can create cards for various occasions. Setting up and printing off lunch tickets as well as lunch sales by taking orders from the members that want lunch that day.

Communications- Perhaps you're more into reaching out into the community, creating videos, or maintaining social media. The communications unit is where we try to get the word out to our community and build relationships. We have done several presentations to CEI CMH programs to inform them what Charter House is all about and how it can help people. Charter House also has a weekly video production and can either be part of the Charter House News team or find out behind the scenes how videos are made.
